Repeal of Prohibition and TABC's founding (1935)
Texas voters ratified the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, and the legislature created the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in 1935 to regulate what had been banned for 15 years.
Legal alcohol sales resumed under a new state licensing system.
Every bar, restaurant, and store selling alcohol in Texas has needed a state license ever since.
The 2026 license at 2723 Elm St comes through that same 90-year-old system, which still controls exactly when and where a venue can serve.
