First Avenue anchors Minneapolis (1970–present)
First Avenue opened in a former Greyhound bus depot in Minneapolis. Prince filmed Purple Rain there in 1983, and the club became a central stop for bands touring the Midwest.
It drew national attention and made Minneapolis a required tour stop.
It still operates as a multi-room venue and a main anchor of the city's music scene.
Like The Intersection, First Avenue shows how one venue can carry much of a city's live music calendar.
