NSW transmission owner and counterparty to backup power agreement
Broken Hill has kept its lights on during grid outages with diesel generators nearing retirement. That backup is about to take a new form: Hydrostor received grid connection approval in early September for a 200-megawatt compressed-air storage plant built into disused mine caverns next to town.

Bid to recover A$1.2 billion provisionally rejected
Transgrid's plan would have added about A$18 to the average household power bill in 2027-28 to cover overruns on Project Energy Connect. Australia's energy regulator said no on September 1, provisionally rejecting the A$1.2 billion recovery bid.
