The shuttered Stocking school on the northwest side of Grand Rapids cleared its biggest hurdle yet on September 10, when the city's planning commission approved a special land use request for a 48-unit affordable housing development on the site. The project is part of the Grand Rapids school district's effort to sell off buildings it no longer needs after Stocking closed in June 2024 amid shrinking neighborhood enrollment.

The Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) Turkey Trot is adding a 10K and a 1-mile walk to its lineup this Thanksgiving. The 34th annual event will open with the new 10K at 8 a.m. on November 26, followed by the children's Mini Trot, the 5K, and the new family walk.

Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) is proposing to spend $96,626 more on services for students at Grand Rapids Christian Schools, a private school system inside its boundaries. The proposed contract amendment, filed in the board's Aug. 24 purchasing agenda, would raise the FACTS Education Solutions contract from $135,192 to $231,818.
