Connecting the battery to Germany's 380 kV grid
Vattenfall announced a final investment decision to build a 254-megawatt, 1,000-megawatt-hour battery storage system at the site of its retired Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. When it comes online by the end of 2028, it will be one of Europe's largest grid-scale batteries, connected to the 380-kilovolt transmission network of operator 50Hertz.

German police arrested a 48-year-old man Tuesday near the Weisweiler power plant in western Germany, ending an eight-day hunt for whoever had been attacking the country's high-voltage grid with homemade rockets. The suspect, identified by German media as Daniel V., was carrying explosives when detained and had a tent rigged with more explosives in nearby undergrowth.
