Roman Polanski extradition (2009)
Film director Roman Polanski was arrested in Switzerland on a US warrant for a 1977 statutory rape case. He fought extradition, and Switzerland ultimately declined to send him to the US.
Polanski was released from Swiss custody and returned to France. He remains a fugitive from US law.
The case showed that extradition requests can be denied even for serious charges, depending on the legal and political circumstances.
Shows that the Tates' extradition is not guaranteed, even with serious charges pending.
