Texas creates alcohol control agency (1935)
After Prohibition ended, Texas created the Texas Liquor Control Board to license and regulate alcohol. The agency became the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in 1970.
Every bar, restaurant, and retailer selling alcohol in Texas had to get a state permit.
The permit system remains the gateway for legal alcohol sales in Texas today.
