Georgetown Cupcake expansion (2010-2015)
Georgetown Cupcake, founded in Washington, DC in 2008, expanded to multiple cities including New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. Each new location required navigating different local health and licensing regimes.
The bakery opened several out-of-state locations and gained national attention.
Showed that a regional bakery could go multi-city, but also that expansion carries operational risk.
Like Lina's Bakery, Georgetown Cupcake started in the DC area and expanded to new states, where local health department licensing was a prerequisite for each new location.
