H-E-B at Mueller (2014)
H-E-B opened a two-story grocery on the site of Austin's old airport, anchoring the Mueller mixed-use redevelopment of about 700 acres. It drew shoppers from across the east side and became the community's retail heart.
Residents got a walkable grocery while the neighborhood's medical and office districts were still maturing. The store pulled customers from well beyond Mueller.
It became a template for grocery-anchored master planning, showing retail could lead rather than lag new housing.
Ramble Market plays the same anchoring role, bringing groceries to 6,300 homes in Goodnight Ranch inside Southeast Austin's current growth corridor.
