Palisades Nuclear Plant restart (2022-2026)
Michigan's 805-megawatt Palisades reactor closed in May 2022 under owner Entergy. Texas-based Holtec International bought the plant and won a $1.5 billion federal loan commitment, aiming to become the first company ever to restart a decommissioned US nuclear plant.
The restart faced repeated schedule slips and cost growth but remains the leading test of US reactor revival.
Palisades established the regulatory and financial path later restarts now use.
Duane Arnold is the third attempt following this path, and its loan is the largest so far.
