Christie's Lounge, a longtime gathering spot on Auburn Boulevard, received its California liquor license on August 31, 2026. The state's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control issued a type 48 license, which permits on-site sale of beer, wine, and spirits as long as food is served alongside.

Grand Rapids book lovers were told in mid-July that their neighborhood indie bookstore, Books & Mortar, would close after a decade. Instead, the store reopened in early September on Cherry Street SE under three new owners who bought the shop to keep it alive.
