A vacant two-story brick office building on Grand Rapids' southwest side is coming down. Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling won a 5-2 planning commission vote Aug. 13 to demolish the structure at 1208 Butterworth St. SW and pave the lot for truck parking.

Regulator — approved the project's special land use request
The shuttered Stocking school on the northwest side of Grand Rapids cleared its biggest hurdle yet on September 10, when the city's planning commission approved a special land use request for a 48-unit affordable housing development on the site. The project is part of the Grand Rapids school district's effort to sell off buildings it no longer needs after Stocking closed in June 2024 amid shrinking neighborhood enrollment.
