Bangladesh's main seaport has followed the same playbook for decades: the state builds terminals, then hands operations to private firms. On August 30, Danish port operator APM Terminals broke ground on Laldia, the country's first terminal built from vacant land by a foreign-led consortium.

Appointed temporary administrator of Panama Canal ports
A Hong Kong firm has operated the ports on either end of the Panama Canal since 1997. That ended on January 31, 2026, when Panama's Supreme Court voided CK Hutchison's concession as unconstitutional, and Denmark's Maersk assumed temporary control of the Balboa and Cristobal facilities.
